The Harwood Foundation is located in the town of Branscomb in Northern Mendocino County, California.
The mission of the Harwood Foundation is to promote
and encourage the practice of sustainable forestry in a market economy. To that end, our web
site is dedicated to two purposes. First, it provides information to educate visitors to our
site about sustainable forestry. We focus on specific efforts underway to develop and expand
availability of primary and secondary forest products that meet sustainable standards set by
the Forest Stewardship Council. Here you find topics on recent R&D efforts undertaken by
ourselves and other organizations; our grant application procedures to assist other nonprofits
realize their innovative efforts; and, selected press clippings on efforts underway to promote
sustainable forestry
issues.
Second, the site hopes to create a cooperative effort among all interested parties to work
together to develop a sustainable forestry products industry. Each month we feature a guest
editorial from a recognized expert and advocate for sustainable forestry. Also, we provide links
to selected web sites who share our mission for promoting sustainable forestry.
The Board of Directors of the Harwood Foundation welcomes you to join us in our undertaking.
We look forward to your comments about what we are doing and how our site can better promote
sustainable forestry.
